The Best Scalp Products for Healthy Hair

Best Scalp Products for Healthy Hair

Gone are the days of “wash and go”, if you really want healthy hair you need to focus on the roots.

The Skinfication of Hair has become one of beauty’s most trending trends and for very good reason. Intersecting between skincare and haircare, Skinfication is all about achieving healthy hair through the use skincare ingredients in your haircare products, with a particular focus on scalpcare.

“Your scalp is a living tissue, a mini ecosystem of sorts, that supports your hair follicles and the hair that emerges from them. When the scalp is in good condition, strands are given a healthy base from which to grow.” Explains Anabel Kingsley, trichologist at Philip Kingsley.

Nourishing shampoos, masks and conditioning oils are great at tackling dry lengths and frazzled ends but if you really want hair that shines with health, its all about taking it back to the roots.

More than just dandruff, poor scalp health can leave your hair feeling lacklustre, constantly dirty, greasy and in worst case scenarios, result in hair loss. Using specific products designed for the scalp can help to declog the skin around the hair root, whilst also helping to rebalance the skin cells, reducing any itchiness or dandruff and prep the root for optimal hair growth.

Thanks to social media, more and more of us are making this connection between scalp health and hair quality, and it’s not just the haircare industry that wants a piece of the pie. Not one to miss a beat, a host of science led skincare brands have taken advantage of this cross section in the industry, with everyone from the Oridnary, to Augustinus Bader and Gallinee bringing out their own range of scalp health products.

HOW TO GET A HEALTHY SCALP

STEP 1: USE A PRE-WASH SCALP OIL

Beginin by applying a nourishing scalp oil to your scalp and hair and gently massage in.

Applying the oil at the beginning of the routine opposed to the end, will help to nourish and hydrate your scalp, soothing any dryness and preparing it for the exfoliation phase. Overtime regularly oiling will also help to promote long term hair growth.

STEP 2: EXFOLIATE YOUR SCALP

Next up exfoliation. Regular exfoliation will remove any environmental aggressors such as pollution as well as excess skin cell build up around the hair follicles, unclogging pores and allowing your scalp to breath, preventing dandruff

As with our regular skincare, there are two types of exfoliation products to choose from. A physical exfoliate such as a scrub you massage in, or a liquid chemical one.

To avoid irritation experts recommend doing this phase just one or twice a week.

STEP 3: CLEANSE AND MASSAGE YOUR SCALP

Ok, we get it, you’ve been doing it for years, but how much attention do you really pay to your technique when washing your hair.

Massaging your shampoo into your head will not only ensure a nice clean scalp but the very action of massage will stimulate blood flow and help to promote hair grouwth. Where you use your hands or a massage tool is really just personal preference, however we lover the relaxing pressure of Champo’s Massage Brush.

STEP 4: APPLY A SCALP SERUM OR TREATMENT

Now that your scalp has been cleansed and exfoliated its time to move on to a scalp serum or treatment.

We love using a scalp serum like the new Philip Kingsleys’ Density Scalp drops to nourish the scalp and promote fuller hair growth.
