Uncover the Celebrity-Favourite Skin Tightening Treatment

It may be a favourite amongst the Kardashian clan but it was Judy Murray, matriarch of British tennis royalty, who really cemented Morpheus8’s status as an anti-aging game changer.

Wowing the media with youthful skin transformation back in January 2021, the public were quick to question the secret behind her radiant visage. With a significant reduction in wrinkles, tighter skin and a more redefined jawline, the results while obvious were incredibly natural looking.  Could it really be filler? Was it simply a good application of botox? Whatever it was, we needed to know.

What is Morpheus8 and how does it work?

Bringing together two of the most effective anti-aging treatments arounds; micro needling and radiofrequncy, Morpheous8 works by delivering controlled trauma to the skin, triggering a healing response which in turn cause the body to produce more collagen and elastin. Both essential building blocks for youthful skin.

Infiltrating the skin with radiofrequecy energy via the mircro-needles on its handheld device, a benefit of combining the two treatments, is that they both stimulate collagen in different ways. While micro needling is known for it’s skin smoothing ablities, the heat of radiofrequency works to tighten and lift the skin. Meaning you get double the results in half the time. And who doesn’t want that.

Ideal for use on the face, neck and body, Morpheous8 can be used around the eye area to target hooded eye lids (an area that many other treatments are unable to target), decrease scarring, diminish stretch marks and even improve the appearance of cellulite. 

More recently practitioners have noticed an increase in clients asking for Morpheus8 to target their “Zoom chin”, an after affect of the pandemic and working from home. However the results reach far further than just an improved jawline; From enhancing the complexion, to increasing hydration levels and reducing pore size, Morpheus8 seems to do it all.

What does the treatment involve?

Before the treatment even starts, you need to arrive a good half hour to an hour early so your practitioner can apply numbing cream. Now, I will happily have injectables without being numbed but trust me, this is one treatment when you're going to want to get the cream.

Once sufficiently numbed, you will need to be thoroughly cleansed and sterilised, before the hand piece can work on whichever area you have decided to treat. According to the area chose, and what your are trying to achieve,  Morpheus8 will be programmed to work at a particular depth and energy. For resurfacing, the needles will be set to target the upper layers of the dermis, whereas for contouring, it will need to go deeper and work on the subnormal tissue.

It will take around 30 minutes for the face and neck or for the stomach. Thighs a little longer. Body treatments will also require local anaesthetics as opposed to the numbing cream.  Results can be seen following one treatment, however it is usually recommended to have two to three sessions depending on desired results.

WHAT HAPPENED WHEN WE TRIED MORPHEUS8?

Not one to mess around, I headed to SKIN +IQ, a state of the art rejuvenation and wellness clinic, for a full face and neck treatment, in the hope that Morpheus8 might just help me achieve the elevated jawline, tighter neck and lifted cheeks I’d been lusting after.

Based in London’s Chelsea the clinic specialises in non-surgical aesthetic procedures, anti-aging and skincare treatments, with Morpheus8 rapidly becoming one of their most popular procedures.

In order to achieve my desired results we decided to go for three treatments spaced between six and eight weeks apart, depending on what worked with my schedule.

Each session took around an hour and half, however only about 35 minutes of that time was Morpheus8, the majority of the session was prep. Post treatment, there was about 24 to 48 hours of redness and slight tenderness, and about three to five days of needling marks. Although, it’s important to note that I have very fair skin and so the time frames may vary according to skin type.

The first two treatments were jaw clenching painful, I’m not going lie but the continually improving results kept me coming back. By the third treatment however, Skin+IQ had switched their brand of numbing cream and it felt like a whole different treatment.
